Tohoku University is a public research university in Sendai, Miyagi, Japan. Established in 1907 as the third of the Imperial Universities, after the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University, it initially focused on science and medicine, later expanding to include humanities studies as well. Many world-class celebrities have attended or served at Tohoku University.
In recognizing Tohoku University’s ongoing globalization efforts, Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) selected the university to be part of its “Top Global University Project” in 2014.
